Storytelling Cohort

Embracing the Storyteller’s Journey Together

(limited to 20 people)

When and Where?

  • We meet throughout the year one day per month (starting in September and ending in June)

  • On the campus of Knox Forest School and various other places to be determined

What?

  • The Storytelling cohort is gauged for older students and adults who want to deepen their storytelling skills.

  • Together we will take a journey through the power of stories and how to tell them.

  • We will follow various themes through the seasons of the year, embracing the stories the landscape is telling naturally.

  • Each month, we will either create a story or memorize a story to tell in order to practice our skills together in a non-judgmental comfortable environment.

  • Wildcraft and story games are a big part of the experience. This allows us to not only embrace stories with our minds, but our bodies as well. The essence of the story must be felt with the entire self (mind, body and spirit).

  • Curriculum and resources will be provided by the Instructor

Cost: $300 to sign up for the whole year / or $40 per session

Instructor: Stephen Otis

Stephen is one of the co-founders of Knox Forest School. He has been teaching and telling stories for over 20 years. Currently, in addition to teaching adult workshops at Knox Forest School, he is a Middle School Humanities Teacher at Clayton Bradley Academy. Stephen has been trained by the Academy of Forest Kindergarten Teachers in storytelling and also teaches workshops for Earth Path Education in their Scared Naturalist School. He also would like to mention the many mentors, from Appalachian Storytellers to Cherokee Native tellers, he has learned from and cherishes. Stephen honors the sacredness, power and imagination stories hold and loves it when people gather to share.
